In the late 1800's prohibition movements were seen across the United States, religious groups and other people drove these movements in an effort to abolish drinking. The effort reached it's peak in 1920, which prohibited the sale and manufacturing of alcohol. Although this was passed it failed to stop consumption completely and organized crime. Organized crime being seen as the lucrative bootlegging business that raised from this amendment.
