Prohibition in the United States was designed to reduce the amount of drinking by eliminating the businesses that manufactured, distributed, and sold alcoholic beverages. Many acts and amendments were created to reduce the amount. The Eighteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution took away license to do business from the brewers, distillers, vintners, and the wholesale and retail sellers of alcoholic beverages. All this sneaking around trying to get alcohol made people go behind the backs of loved ones and do private selling's which caused more crime, rebellion, and abuse. (exactly what they were trying to ban.)
